It is unfortunate that it takes law suits for some to do the right thing. I would hope that this administrator will hear the voices of others and act in a pastoral way. Regardless, I am glad that survivors are speaking up and finding more ways than through these particular church settings to promote justice and healing. Peace.

Thanks for the note. Survivors become thrivers when we use our experiences and voice to change the systems that perpetuate abuse. Thanks for using your voice and experience to promote healing and end abuse. Peace.

Thank you for this article; it is very well written. As a survivor of sexual abuse by a priest (in 1952 when I was 14) I have lived long enough to be aware that contacting this John Hardin will not matter at all. Nor is he worth my time and effort for the contact. The ONLY thing that will matter is the bottom line, known as the Almighty Dollar. When donations stop, only then will the athority in the church care. I do not for one minute believe that any of them practice, or even believe, what they preach. They are money grubbers using bully pulpits "as a means of salvation." I am glad to be alive to see their holy towers falling in on them because that too is a form of justice.

Jaime,
This is a great article. I will encourage others to write in and I will do the same. Unfortunately, people like that are woven in the fabric of our society, including survivors with their own stigmas and hatred. We will not heal, nor progress like that; and why I believe the National Coalition will be a phenomenal tool to help that. i am praying you are considering joining the board. Besides your knowledge of healing, and a myriad of other subjects, you are a great conflict resolutionist.
Thanks for the article. I will see who I can get on to write to John Hardin and Ken Laverone.
Have a blessed day!

Hi, Peg,
The bishop and priests you describe sound pretty callous, unfeeling. I have the idea that there's a lot of shame and anger that these people in particularly need to get in touch with to take some action and do justice. However, it seems that this is the kind of stifled inaction that is leading to the church's greater irrelevance and demise. I'm glad you used our voice and saddened that the formal church leaders did not do more. Peace.

Hi-jaime,
I'm in a parish where the priest already has there homily for the Sunday done a week ahead of time. but, they will not speak of clergy abuse-don't want parishioners riled up.they still refuse in 2011 to get the message out about clergy abuse or anyone abusing
achild. a couple weeks ago I sat across the table from our bishop
and happened to ask him about the Charter-Promise to Protect
Pledge to heal and asked why the Charter wasnot more impt.than the Norms.to me just looking at the 2 words seems charter would be number 1.he told me the charter is the preamble just like preamble in the constitution. funny thing he got up and moved away from me. I never heard from him over my clergy abuse ,from
his diocese. it was all cut and dried from his diocese. vicar general
checked everything out I said-yes i was telling the truth and thanked me for keeping the diocese safe.
the vicar also told me i didn't need any counseling. If only the church
would get excited about things that are happening in their own parish-they don't have to look elsewhere.the bishop is the one to remove these guys-I know we've had trouble in the past.

Here’s the lesson from the wisdom that comes from above… The heart of man is deceitful and desperately wicked. Unfortunately, the manifestation of the most grotesque forms of that wickedness is most often exhibited by corrupt leadership. The grave misfortune within these circumstances is that people trust their leadership with blinded eyes. Often times eyes blinded by greed, lies, and selfish wants but in the worst of cases, eyes blinded by false hope…Hope in broken men. We are looking to the wrong wellspring of hope itself.

Great job Dr. Jaimie. I live in a rural area where fighting against csa is very rare; and people openly discusiing it, even more rare. But we all know, healing comes with acknowledgement. Since I have been public, others are slowly coming forth. Keeping the secret only perpetuates a multi-generational epidemic. I thank you for joining us in uniting our voices for great change.
